Our Programs
Intrax – ProWorld Volunteer Abroad Program
Intrax volunteer abroad projects are managed by our sister company ProWorld and come from communities’ assessments of their own needs. Our site teams in Peru, Belize, Mexico, India, Thailand, Brazil and Ghana help assess and then execute the projects year round to ensure sustainable and valuable development for our host communities and volunteers. By joining our volunteer programs, volunteers become agents of positive change in the lives of others and themselves.
We believe our Canadian volunteers deserve to be challenged, to be exposed to new and authentic experiences, and to participate in real development projects. ProWorld programs challenge volunteers physically, culturally, and intellectually through experiential learning, hands-on development work, and cultural immersion. Volunteers gain skills in sustainable development work, leadership, and cross-cultural communication, and gain a broadened perspective of themselves and the world in which we live.
Volunteer Abroad Project Model
Projects are selected based on the needs defined by our host communities and the various project stakeholders. Projects are executed in collaboration with a cross section of the host community, with project ownership and overall leadership ultimately resting on the community members themselves. Teams of ProWorld Project Coordinators work year round with our host communities assessing needs, thinking creatively, and setting long-term goals for sustainable development projects. There are many inspiring projects you and participate in with three areas of concentration including Health, The Environment and Social and Economic Development.
What will you do?
ProWorld programs combine development work, language instruction, and cultural immersion to create a challenging and rewarding experience for participants. You may be building cleaner-burning stoves in High Andean communities, caring for elderly Oaxacans in Mexico, protecting children’s rights in Belize, helping with HIV/AIDS education in Thailand, or working on women's rights in India. No matter the project, all ProWorld participants work with local residents on hands-on, community-driven projects.
These collaborative development projects are at the core of all ProWorld programs. Projects range from small, single day infrastructural improvements to multi-year initiatives incorporating all the ProWorld project portfolios.
Projects include but are not limited to working in health clinics, building schools, starting and supporting micro-businesses, assisting with human rights work, teaching, and running after school programs and summer camps, protecting the environment and reforestation.
